Back in 2007, Tom and I got a call from our old friend and colleague, TJ Griffin.
What are you two doing? Are you interested in starting something?
Like us, TJ loved his nonprofit clients and wanted to give them innovative technology, more control and independence, and better support than he’d been able to do in the big-software world, where we all used to work together. And he wanted to work reasonable hours so that he could actually see his infant son. Tom and I were ready, too.
With huge dreams and insurmountable creativity and excitement, the three of us started Jackson River. We knew what kind of company culture we wanted to create, what types of causes we wanted to work with, and what commitments we were prepared to make to our clients.
For eight years, we worked day and night to make our shared vision a reality. Building Jackson River has been an amazing and wild ride, with a lot of hard work and remarkable client successes to show for it. We’ve totally changed the conversation about online marketing and fundraising and we continue to innovate alongside our inspiring clients.
Around the first of this year, Tom and I got another call from the indomitable TJ.
It’s time for me to go.
In many ways, the three of us grew up together in this business. We backed each other up and held each other up. We had good ideas and bad ideas. We kept each other honest. We stayed true to our values. We laughed a lot. We're a family.
Of course, Tom and I are really proud of TJ’s decision to take a new path - like you are with family. Following your heart and seeing where it takes you is not an easy thing to do, and he will be terribly missed.
TJ’s leave-taking has been a valuable opportunity for Tom and I to reflect on the growth of the company and plan for our future. We’re fortunate to have Jennie, Sheena, Misty, Kara and Phillip - an incredible leadership group, each of whom runs their departments with grace and strength.
Jackson River is not changing. TJ will always be part of our DNA, but this company is far bigger than any one (or two, or three) of us. We’ve built a place where more than 30 whip-smart people can take risks, develop hidden talents, trust their instincts, get creative, and exceed expectations with themselves, each other, and with our clients. We are thriving. We are fired up for the next chapter – and we hope you are too.
Thank you for everything TJ, we love you always. Godspeed my friend.
