Dreamforce 2012!

Since 2008 the Jackson River team has been attending Dreamforce.  Great clients, friends, partners, amazing bands, and of course a tremendous opportunity for learning and growing within this large platform ecosystem - its a great week that we look forward to every year.  This year Jackson River will be sending key members of our management and Salesforce consulting practice, but instead of just attending we will also be sponsoring in the nonprofit foundation zone.

The ability to spot trends in fundraising, marketing or communications performance is a big deal!  Having good records and reviewing reports is not the same as seeing the health of an organization. Salesforce Dashboards allow nonprofit executives to cut across the loads of information stored in their CRM software to find relevant indicators of sustained performance. 

We started Forcify.me with the goal to become a valuable resource for non-profits, providing the types of training videos that can supplement, and in some cases replace, instructor-led training which may not be focused on how nonprofits use Salesforce. 

The International Rescue Committees charitable gift site was recently nominated for the first annual Blue Drop Awards, which recognizes best-of-breed websites built with Drupal.

Development Directors get three consistent questions from the Executive Director and Board of Directors:

1. How much did we raise last quarter?
2. How does that compare to our expectations?
3. What are we going to raise next year?
   (often phrased as, "Here's what we need to raise next year.")

What I love about Salesforce Matrix reports is that they empower Development Directors to pursue a thoughtful approach to decide the annual fundraising goal as well as report on progress throughout the year.

I'm one of the lucky ones.  My true calling is on the business-side of everything, from setting strategy to fundraising to outreach, but early in my career I was compelled (ahem...forced) to know how software works. To this day, I can't code beyond four lines of HTML but my fundraising benefited tremendously because I knew how databases use:

When people ask me what I do, this is the answer I give them:  I'm a technology consultant for nonprofits.  This is usually followed by:

"Do you do fundraising consulting?"  No. 

"Oh, so you do web design?" Er...no.
